Wooden Accent Walls in the Twin Cities Metro Area
Custom wooden accent walls are a simple way to add warmth, texture, and character without taking on a full remodel. I design and build accent walls for homeowners across the Twin Cities metro, including board and batten, shiplap, geometric designs, picture frame moulding, and functional walls with hooks, shelves, or benches. Each one is thoughtfully designed to fit your space and style.

Step 1
Planning
Every project starts with a virtual consultation about your space, style, and goals. Once we have a direction, I plan the layout and overall design of your accent wall. Every wall is customized to fit the room and create a finished look that feels intentional and cohesive.

Step 2
Prep
Before installation begins, the wall is carefully prepared and the design is mapped out. This step ensures clean lines, proper placement, and a polished final result. Taking the time to prepare the space helps the accent wall look seamless and professionally finished.

Step 3
Installation
Once the design is finalized, I install the wooden accent wall with attention to detail and craftsmanship. This is where the space begins to transform as texture, dimension, and character are added to the room. Each wall is built with care to create a custom feature that feels both beautiful and lasting.

Step 4
The Result
The final result is a custom wood accent wall that turns an ordinary room into a standout space. Whether it is used to add warmth to a bedroom, create a focal point in a living room, or bring character to an office or entryway, a wooden accent wall adds depth, style, and personality to your home.
Wooden Accent Wall Design Options ⇩
Board and Batten

Subtle Board & Batten
Subtle Board & Batten offers a clean, understated take on this classic style. Because there is no projecting top cap, the profile stays streamlined and works especially well in smaller spaces such as powder rooms, dining nooks, or narrow hallways. All boards are 3/8″ thick for a refined, low-profile finish, and optional hooks can be added if you would like extra function. Your existing wall shows between the trim pieces, creating the background for the design.

Modified Board & Batten
Modified Board & Batten builds on the subtle version with an added top cap for a more finished architectural look. The vertical and bottom boards are 2″ wide, while the top board is 3″ wide and can accommodate optional hooks. All boards are 3/8″ thick, so the overall profile remains sleek while adding more visual detail at the top. Your existing wall surface remains visible between the trim pieces and serves as the backdrop for the design.

Full Length Vertical Board & Batten
Full Length Vertical Board & Batten is designed to make a wall feel taller and more substantial. The top and bottom boards are 5.5″ wide, with 3″ vertical boards running the full height of the wall for a bold, balanced look. All boards are 3/8″ thick, giving the design a polished finish without excessive depth. This style works beautifully behind beds, in offices, and on larger living room walls where you want strong vertical interest.

Double Slat Vertical Board and Batten
Double Slat Vertical Board & Batten adds texture and rhythm with closely spaced vertical lines that feel clean and modern. This design is especially well suited for dining rooms, offices, and bedrooms where you want a statement wall that still feels tailored and timeless. All boards are 3/8″ thick, and your existing wall remains visible between the slats as part of the finished look.

Alternating Size Full Length Board and Batten
Alternating Size Full Length Board & Batten creates movement and interest by varying the width of the vertical boards. The top and bottom boards are 5.5″ wide, and the verticals alternate between 3″ and 1.5″ for a more custom, design-forward look. Crafted from 3/8″ wood, this style adds detail without feeling heavy and works especially well in offices or other spaces where you want a distinctive feature wall.

3″ Subtle Double Board and Batten
3″ Subtle Double Board & Batten takes the classic board and batten look and adds extra trim detail for more texture and dimension. Because it does not include the additional top cap detail of the modified version, the overall look stays a bit more understated. It is a great middle ground for homeowners who want more interest than a basic board and batten wall while still keeping the design clean.

Single Board & Batten with Shelf & Corbels
Single Board & Batten with Shelf & Corbels combines decorative trim with functional styling space. The shelf and corbels add a more built-in, furniture-like feel, making this design especially charming in entryways, mudrooms, dining nooks, and living spaces. It is a beautiful option if you want a feature wall that feels both classic and practical.

Double Board & Batten Accent Wall with Shelf
Double Board & Batten Accent Wall with Shelf adds layered trim detail along with a shelf for décor or everyday styling. The double-board design gives the wall more depth and dimension, while the shelf introduces functionality and a finished custom look. This option works well in spaces where you want the wall treatment to feel substantial and purposeful.

Triple Board & Batten with Shelf and Bench
Triple Board & Batten with Shelf and Bench creates a highly functional built-in style wall treatment that is ideal for entryways, mudrooms, and drop zones. With added trim detail, a shelf, and bench seating, this design provides both visual impact and practical everyday use. It is a great solution for spaces that need storage, organization, and a more finished custom feel.
Shiplap Accent Walls

Horizontal Shiplap Wall WITH Edge Piece
Horizontal Shiplap with Edge Piece gives you the classic horizontal shiplap look with a more defined, finished perimeter. The added edge detail frames the wall and makes the installation feel more intentional and complete. This style is ideal for homeowners who want a timeless accent wall with a polished final look.

Horizontal Shiplap NO Edge Piece
Horizontal Shiplap without an Edge Piece has a simpler, more relaxed finish that lets the horizontal lines take center stage. It offers the same warm, classic character as traditional shiplap, but with a slightly cleaner and less formal feel around the outer edges. This is a great option for spaces where you want texture and charm without additional trim detailing.

Subtle Vertical Shiplap
Subtle Vertical Shiplap features evenly spaced vertical boards for a simple, timeless look that adds quiet texture to the wall. With its streamlined profile, this option works well when you want visual interest without a lot of extra detailing. The vertical orientation also helps draw the eye upward, making the room feel taller and more open.

Modified Vertical Shiplap
Modified Vertical Shiplap offers the same classic vertical lined look as subtle vertical shiplap, but with added trim detail for a more finished and architectural appearance. It is a great choice if you like the clean texture of shiplap but want a slightly elevated custom feel. This design works beautifully in bedrooms, bathrooms, offices, and entryways.

Horizontal Shiplap with Shelf
Horizontal Shiplap with Shelf combines the timeless look of shiplap with practical display space. The shelf creates an opportunity to style the wall with artwork, décor, or seasonal accents while keeping the design clean and functional. It is a great fit for living rooms, dining areas, bedrooms, nurseries, and entry spaces.

Horizontal Shiplap & Picture Ledge Shelf Wall
Horizontal Shiplap with Picture Ledge Shelf adds classic wall texture plus a deeper ledge designed for layering framed art, books, or decorative pieces. This option creates a finished focal point that is both beautiful and highly usable. It works especially well in family spaces, bedrooms, playrooms, and dining areas where you want display space built right into the design.
Patterned Accent Walls

Small Diamond Accent Wall
Small Diamond Accent Wall features a tighter diamond pattern for a more intricate, detailed look. The smaller scale adds texture and visual movement, making it a great option for accent spaces such as offices, bedrooms, entryways, and powder rooms. It feels custom and eye-catching while still remaining clean and refined.

Large Diamond Accent Wall
Large Diamond Accent Wall uses a wider, more open diamond pattern for a bold statement with a slightly less busy feel. Because the design is scaled up, it reads especially well on larger walls and in spaces where you want strong visual impact without too much detail. This style creates a custom, elevated backdrop for bedrooms, offices, dining rooms, or living areas.

Chevron Accent Wall (Style 1)
Chevron Accent Wall (Style 1) features angled boards arranged in a classic chevron pattern for a striking, tailored look. The design adds movement and energy to the wall while still feeling polished and intentional. It is a beautiful option for bedrooms, offices, dining spaces, or anywhere you want a distinctive focal point.

Chevron Accent Wall (Style 2)
Chevron Accent Wall (Style 2) offers a different take on the chevron look, giving the wall a bold geometric style with a unique visual rhythm. It brings strong character to the space while still feeling clean and custom. This option is ideal if you want a statement wall that feels modern, elevated, and one of a kind.

Chevron Accent Wall with Picture Ledge Shelf
Chevron Accent Wall with Picture Ledge Shelf blends bold geometric design with functional display space. The chevron pattern creates a strong focal point, while the picture ledge gives you room to style framed art, décor, or seasonal accents. This option works beautifully in family rooms, nurseries, bedrooms, and other spaces where you want both impact and usability.

Chevron Accent Wall with Board & Batten
Chevron Accent Wall with Board & Batten combines the movement of a chevron pattern with the structure of board and batten for a layered, custom-built look. This design adds both texture and architectural detail, making it a standout option for entryways, bedrooms, offices, and living spaces. It is a great choice when you want something classic and creative at the same time.

3″ Square/Rectangle Accent Wall
3″ Square/Rectangle Accent Wall combines square and rectangular sections to create a custom grid that feels more dynamic than a standard symmetrical layout. The mix of shapes adds visual interest while still keeping the overall design clean and tailored. It is a great option for homeowners who want a modern accent wall with a little more variation.

3″ Rectangle Accent Wall
3″ Rectangle Accent Wall uses rectangular sections to create a sleek, linear design with a sophisticated custom feel. The shape and spacing help the wall feel clean, architectural, and slightly more contemporary. This style works especially well on larger walls where you want a refined feature without a lot of visual clutter.

3″ Square Accent Wall
3″ Square Accent Wall creates a crisp grid pattern with evenly sized square sections for a balanced, modern look. It adds architectural interest and clean symmetry without overwhelming the room. This design works well in offices, dining rooms, bedrooms, and other spaces where you want a structured statement wall.
Wainscoting/Picture Frame Moulding

Elegant Chair Rail/Picture Frame Moulding
Elegant Chair Rail/Picture Frame Moulding combines classic lower-wall trim with decorative picture frame moulding for a refined, timeless look. This style adds structure and sophistication without requiring a full-wall treatment from floor to ceiling. It is especially well suited for dining rooms, hallways, foyers, and other spaces where you want subtle architectural character.

Picture Frame Moulding Accent Wall
Picture Frame Moulding Accent Wall uses applied moulding to create elegant framed sections across the wall. This style feels polished, traditional, and high-end while still remaining versatile enough to work with a range of interiors. It is a beautiful choice for dining rooms, bedrooms, living spaces, hallways, and formal entry areas.
Geometric Accent Walls

Geometric Accent Wall
Geometric Accent Wall brings a custom, modern focal point to the room through clean intersecting lines and a more artistic layout. The wood pieces are 2″ wide and 3/8″ thick, creating dimension without overwhelming the space. Because your existing wall remains visible between the boards, the finished look feels integrated and architectural rather than bulky.

Geometric Accent Wall w/Hooks
Geometric Accent Wall with Hooks combines modern design with everyday function. The primary wood pieces are 2″ wide, while the horizontal boards used for the hooks are 3″ wide to provide both support and visual balance. This style is ideal for entryways, mudrooms, and other hardworking spaces where you want storage and personality in one custom feature wall. Your existing wall remains visible between the wood details and becomes part of the overall design.
Other Accent Walls

Closet Turned Mudroom Built-In
Closet Turned Mudroom Built-In transforms an underused closet into a custom storage zone designed for everyday life. This type of project can include features such as hooks, bench seating, shelving, and trim details to make the space both beautiful and functional. It is an excellent option for creating a more organized entry experience without needing to add square footage.

3″ Vertical Slat
3″ Vertical Slat is a clean-lined accent wall made up of evenly spaced vertical boards that add texture, height, and a modern architectural feel. All boards are 3/8″ thick, and the existing wall remains visible in the gaps between them. This style is versatile enough to work in bedrooms, offices, living spaces, and entryways.

Beadboard Accent Wall
Beadboard Accent Wall brings classic cottage-inspired character through its narrow vertical grooves and timeless texture. It is a versatile option that can feel traditional, coastal, farmhouse, or clean and updated depending on the surrounding décor. Beadboard works beautifully in bathrooms, mudrooms, laundry rooms, dining areas, and other spaces that benefit from subtle architectural detail.
