Featured in CanvasRebel: The Story Behind Brushstrokes & Timber

I’m honored to share that I was recently featured in CanvasRebel, where I had the chance to talk about the story behind Brushstrokes & Timber, how this business began, and what continues to drive my work today.
For me, this feature was especially meaningful because it captured something that has been true from the very beginning: Brushstrokes & Timber did not start as a business plan. It started with me wanting to make my own home feel more personal.
I started by working on my own home, painting walls, building accent features, and experimenting with ways to make a space feel more finished and more personal. At the time, I shared those projects online under the name Savage DIY Mom. What began as a creative outlet slowly turned into something more when people started reaching out and asking me to do similar work in their homes.
That was the turning point where I began to realize I could turn my hobby into a business.
What stood out to me was not just that people liked the work. It was how strongly they responded to how those projects changed the feel of a room, even though they were not major renovations. They were feature walls, murals, paint, and details that gave a home more character and personality without requiring a full remodel. That idea still shapes everything I do today.
From Savage DIY Mom to Brushstrokes & Timber
As the business grew, I realized the original name no longer fit the work I was doing. What started as DIY projects at home had grown into something more refined and more specialized. Rebranding to Brushstrokes & Timber gave the business a name that better reflects what I create now: interior painting, custom accent walls, and murals designed to make a home feel unique and personal.
I did not build this business through a big launch or a complicated plan. The interview highlighted that my business was built from my own home, through word-of-mouth, referrals, and consistently showing up online through social media. I am proud of that because it means this business was built on trust.
What I Actually Help Homeowners Do
One part of the article that really resonated with me was the idea that many people feel like their home is “almost there,” but not quite finished. That is exactly the problem I love helping solve.
A lot of homes look nice, but they still feel a little flat or lacking personality. Sometimes they do not need a full renovation. They just need the right detail, the right focal point, or the right design choice to bring everything together.
That might look like:
- A fresh interior paint update that makes a room feel clean and finished.
- A wooden accent wall that adds warmth and character.
- A mural that turns a child’s room, office, or special space into something memorable.
- A custom design feature that makes the home feel more personal and less cookie-cutter.
That is where I come in. My work is not just about painting or building something attractive. It is about helping clients think through their space, figure out what will actually work, and create something that feels like it belongs in their home. The process is collaborative, but my goal is always to make it feel easy and stress-free on their end.
Why This Interview Is So Important to Me
Being featured in CanvasRebel is an honor, but I also think it matters for another reason: it gives potential clients a chance to get to know me better.
When you hire someone to work in your home, you are not just hiring for a finished result. You are also hiring for trust, communication, and confidence that the person you bring in genuinely cares about the work.
This interview reflects a lot of what my clients already know about me:

Built on Creativity, Craftsmanship, and Trust
If I had to sum up what Brushstrokes & Timber is really about, it would be this:
I want to create spaces that change how people feel in their homes.
Whether that is through a bold mural, a warm wooden accent wall, or a simple paint project, I want the finished result to feel intentional, personal, and made for the people living there. That idea came through clearly in the interview, and it is still the standard I bring to every project.
At the end of the day, I am grateful for the opportunity to do creative, hands-on work that helps people love where they live. I am also grateful for every client, referral, share, and recommendation that has helped this business grow.
